Dr. Thomas A. Gionis, United States Fulbright Scholar in Law, and President and Chief Executive Officer of Joseph and Gionis, LLC, was a recent invited presenter to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Bangkok Consultation Workshop on Codes of Ethics in Engineering, Science and Technology. The UNESCO meeting was held at the UNESCO Regional Unit for Social and Human Sciences in Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok, Thailand, during May 15-16, 2006.

At the UNESCO meeting Dr. Gionis lectured on results of his original research conducted as Chairman, Joint Study Committee on Clinical Research Ethics (JSCCRE). JSCCRE is a joint cooperative effort of the Fulbright Academy of Science and Technology and the American Board of Healthcare Law and Medicine. Dr. Gionis’ research and presentation considered the relationships between international research ethics codes and domestic regulation and analyzed approximately 3,150 human research subject violations in the United States between 2000-2004.

Dr. Thomas A. Gionis, United States Fulbright Scholar in Law, and President and Chief Executive Officer of Joseph and Gionis, LLC, is an invited lecturer and will present at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) meeting in
Seoul, Korea, July 26-28, 2006. The UNESCO meeting in Seoul will concern the teaching of Bioethics.

Dr. Gionis will present his research regarding teaching bioethics in a clinical setting. His topic will be “Informed Consent Bioethics Education in the Clinical Setting: Measuring the
“Pour-Over” Effect from Research Ethics to Practice Ethics, Utilizing the Seminar-Dialogue Teaching Method.”
